Cinnamon Sweethearts: A Cozy Romance for Every Bookworm’s Dream

Laurie Gilmore’s The Cinnamon Bun Bookstore—the second installment in the Dream Harbor series—delivers all the heartwarming vibes of a Hallmark movie, wrapped in a delightful small-town romance. With its irresistible blend of books, baked goods, and budding love, it’s an absolute treat for anyone craving a cozy yet swoon-worthy read.

The story follows Hazel, a charming bookstore owner grappling with the bittersweet end of her twenties. Determined to seize every moment she might’ve missed, she embarks on an unexpected treasure hunt—guided by mysterious clues left in her books. Helping her on this adventure is Noah, a fisherman whose quiet affection for Hazel weaves its way into every page. Fans of The Pumpkin Spice Café will relish the continuation of their dynamic, as the slow-burn romance blooms into something irresistibly tender.

Gilmore masterfully captures the dream of every bibliophile: a partner who not only notices your love for books but actively delves into your literary world to connect with you. The romance is sweet, steady, and void of the dreaded third-act breakup trope, making the story all the more satisfying.

While the novel’s summer-to-autumn setting perfectly complements the titular cinnamon buns, some readers may be misled by its autumnal title. But Gilmore cleverly ties the name into the story, crafting a narrative that transitions as seamlessly as the seasons it portrays.

The one drawback? The alternating points of view—shifting between Hazel and Noah—are presented in a third-person perspective, a style that may not appeal to all readers. It slightly detracted from my immersion, as it did in The Pumpkin Spice Café. This quirk cost the book a full five-star rating, but it remains a strong four-star gem in my eyes.

Ultimately, The Cinnamon Bun Bookstore is a heartfelt journey of friendship, love, and self-discovery. Its likable characters, vibrant small-town charm, and feel-good romance make it a perfect weekend read. If you enjoy stories that blend comforting settings with heart-stirring relationships, this one’s for you.

I can’t wait to dive into the next installment of the Dream Harbor series—and in the meantime, I’m off to continue Elsie Silver’s Chestnut Spring series with Heartless. Happy reading!
