Heartless by Elsie Silver: A Laugh-Out-Loud, Tearjerking Ranch Romance You Can’t Miss

Hello, dearest reader!

It’s not been too long since my last post because I’ve been on quite a roll with reading this year, and I’m so excited to share my latest five-star read with you: Heartless by Elsie Silver.

This is the second book in the Chestnut Springs series, and let me tell you it’s amazing. I enjoyed Flawless (the first book in the series), but Heartless has something truly special. This one hit me so hard that I went from laughing hysterically to crying yes, actual tears. It’s that kind of book: funny, emotional, and completely gripping.

What Makes Heartless Shine

One of the things I loved most? There’s no third-act breakup. I mean, can we talk about how refreshing that is? I’m so tired of those unnecessary breakups that feel forced just to create drama. Here, the main characters are faced with a situation that challenges them, but they don’t fall apart over it. They take the time they need to process and grow. It felt natural, real, and so satisfying to read.

The story is well-paced, and despite my 8-to-5 work schedule, I finished the book in just a couple of days. Elsie Silver’s writing style pulled me in effortlessly, which is not something I can say about every book.

The Characters

What really stole the show for me, though, were the characters.

• The father? Perfection. I already liked him from the first book, but Heartless gave him center stage, and I couldn’t get enough of his personality, humor, and warmth.

• The five-year-old son? Hilarious. His quirky lines and the way he repeats things added so much joy to the story. He’s one of those characters who doesn’t just lighten the mood—he elevates the entire story.

And yes, I laughed a lot. I’m not someone who laughs easily while reading. Usually, I’ll just giggle or smile at a funny moment, but with Heartless, there were genuine laugh-out-loud moments.

A New Appreciation for Ranch Romances

Confession: I don’t know why I haven’t picked up ranch-style books before. Growing up, I used to love watching movies set on ranches, but for some reason, I never explored that world in books. Now? I’m hooked. This series has even inspired me to play country music for days on end—I’ve really fallen for the whole vibe.

Final Thoughts

This book was such a wonderful surprise, and I can confidently say it’s my favorite Elsie Silver book so far. (Okay, I’ve only read two, but still—it’s at the top for now.) I gave it a well-deserved five stars on Goodreads, and I’m looking forward to diving into the rest of the Chestnut Springs series and exploring more of Elsie Silver’s work.

If you’ve read Heartless or any of Elsie Silver’s books, let me know what you think! And if you’re debating whether or not to try the series—this is your sign.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a lovely day!
