House of Sky and Breath: A Rollercoaster of Twists, Turns, and Pure Magic

Hello dear readers!

I just finished House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J. Maas, the second installment in the Crescent City universe and wow, I am still processing it. If you’ve been following my reading journey, you know how much I adore Sarah J. Maas’s work. Throne of Glass is actually my favorite series of hers, and funnily enough, one of her characters shares my name. But let’s get back to House of Sky and Breath.

Initial Thoughts

First and foremost, I was speechless after finishing this book. Shocked, surprised, completely floored—but in the best way possible. Maas has a talent for keeping readers on their toes, and this novel is no exception. Every moment feels purposeful, leading to something bigger, even if the first 150–180 pages seem a bit chaotic without immediate explanation. Trust me, it all pays off.

Characters: Love Them or Hate Them?

Now, let’s talk about the characters. I’ll be honest—I don’t particularly love our main protagonists, Hunt and Bryce Quinlan. Their dynamic doesn’t fully click for me, but that doesn’t take away from my enjoyment of the book. The side characters, on the other hand, completely stole the show.

Ithan - character I’ve grown to enjoy more and more.

Rune – Always a favorite, and his storyline keeps getting better

The Princes of Hel– I need to know more about the ASAP.

Agent Daybright – I had my suspicions, and I was so excited to see where Maas took this.

The Plot Twists—Oh, the Plot Twists!

The last 60 pages? Pure chaos—in the best way possible. One twist after another, leading to a moment that had my jaw on the floor. And the fact that we’re now tying into another familiar universe? Absolute genius.

Sarah J. Maas once again delivers an epic, emotional, and deeply immersive fantasy. While it took me a week to get through (hey, it’s an 800-page book!), it was packed with everything I love—strong world-building, character growth, and an unpredictable storyline.

Final Verdict

I don’t know why I put off diving into Crescent City for so long. Maybe I was hesitant because I loved Throne of Glass and ACOTAR so much, and I didn’t want to set my expectations too high. But honestly? This series might just be even better. Now, I cannot wait to get my hands on the paperback of House of Flame and Shadow and continue this incredible journey.
