Happy Autumn, everyone! 🍂 It’s finally the 21st of September, and with the arrival of cooler weather, cozy sweaters, and pumpkin spice everything, I’ve got some exciting news to share. After dreaming about it for so long, I’m officially starting my own book club! And it’s going to be exactly what I’ve always wanted—tailored to my reading tastes and, hopefully, to yours too.
As you may know, I’m a big fan of genres that span murder mystery, fantasy, dark academia, and a sprinkle of romance. There’s just something magical about diving into a book that takes you on a journey through mystery, magic, and emotional twists. But to kick things off, I’ll be focusing on one genre at a time, at least until the club grows and we see more members joining in. The goal is to build something that evolves with the readers, and I’m so excited to have you along for the ride!
The Name: Suriel Tease Book Club
The name of my book club comes straight from one of my favourite reads, A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. I was inspired by the Suriel, who always had the tea on the land of Prythian. It felt like a perfect fit—because who doesn’t love a little literary gossip while sipping on your favorite latte or tea? Whether it’s a pumpkin spice latte in hand or a tough nut blend, this club will be a place for us to gather with our drinks and dive deep into our book of the month.
What’s Different About This Book Club?
Unlike many book clubs that gather in bars or cafés, I wanted something cozier. I’m the kind of person who loves being wrapped in a blanket, in my comfy clothes, surrounded by fall decorations and good vibes. I knew I wasn’t alone in wanting a space where we could stay at home and still connect with other readers, especially over the books we love.
And because staying in the comfort of home is key for me, we’ll be doing bi-weekly reading sprints! These are perfect if you just want to log on, say hi, and focus on reading with a group of people who are all in their cozy spaces too. It’s a chance to chat about what you’re currently reading, and then we’ll all buckle down and do what we love most—read!
How It All Came Together
The idea came from my personal love for books, and also from the fact that my sister and I are both avid book lovers (and book hoarders!). Between us, we have more books than we can count, and we’re always on the hunt for our next favourite read. I wanted a space where we could talk about the books that have truly moved us, but also to invite others to do the same. After all, what’s better than finding a community that shares the same passion for books as you?
Most book clubs I’ve come across haven’t quite had this vibe. They tend to meet in public spaces, and while that works for some, it’s just not me. I crave the feeling of being at home, with a hot drink, ready to chat about a good book. That’s the energy I want to bring to the Suriel Tease Book Club.
Where We’re Starting
I’m launching this book club on the Bookclubs app, so it’s easy to join and participate no matter where you are. The plan is to do monthly deep dives into a selected book, starting with either The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab or Babel by R.F. Kuang. Since September and October have that cozy dark academia feel, I’m leaning toward Babel as our first official read. But I’ll be sharing updates as we get closer to the start date!
And don’t worry, there will be plenty of room for murder mysteries and witchy vibes as we roll into November and spooky season really gets going.
How to Join
I’ll be posting the details on my social media soon, and you’ll be able to officially join the Serial Tease Book Club through the app. We’ll meet once a month to discuss the book, and for now, I’m planning our first official meeting for Friday, October 21st at 7 p.m. (Dublin time). It’s a perfect time to gather, talk about the book, and get into the Halloween spirit with some thrilling reads!
Whether you’re in for the books, the reading sprints, or the community, I hope you’ll join me in this little adventure. This is going to be a space for passionate readers who, like me, just want to snuggle up at home and chat about all things literary.
Stay tuned for updates, and I can’t wait to see where this book club goes!
Until then, happy reading!
