One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus

Good evening lovely readers,

Let's settle ourselves in a comfy couch or bed, with a good cup of tea and a blanket. To be fairly honest the weather here in Dublin is setting the mood for murder mystery month, with rain and wind. The only thing that we want to do is stay home and read a good book.

Also I just read the amazing news that Jay Kristoff, writer of Empire of the Vampire and also Empire of the Damned is coming to Dublin. If anyone in Dublin is attending that event please let me know, I would love to have a friend.

Without further notice, let us start reviewing this book, One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus. It is the first instalment of the series and there is a Netflix series about this book.

Pay close attention and you might solve this.

On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.

Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.

Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.

Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.

Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.

And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High's notorious gossip app.

Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention Simon's dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn't an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he'd planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who's still on the loose?

Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.

Not bad for a murder mystery series.

I enjoyed this, it was a small 350 pages book and it was a fast read. The author has a nice writing style.

The story in itself was good! So basically one person dies and the four witnesses are immediately viewed as culprits. Each of them has one big secret that can jeopardise their life. So they are fighting to keep their secrets safe, while trying to prove that they did not commit it and then trying to find clues of who did kill the guy.

Interesting story, but really similar to the Secret History and If We Were Villains.

Although I'll be watching the Netflix series and providing my feedback on it!

Love,

Manon
