The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods

Updated: Feb 27, 2024

Good evening lovely book readers,

I hope you're doing well!

I do hope you guys had a nice weekend, mine was full of packing/ unpacking due to me moving out of my shared house to my own apartment with my boyfriend. But here we are, onto the next book of February Mystery Month. We continue with a review on The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods

The Keeper of Stories meets The Lost Apothecary in this evocative and charming novel full of mystery and secrets.

‘The thing about books,’ she said ‘is that they help you to imagine a life bigger and better than you could ever dream of.’

On a quiet street in Dublin, a lost bookshop is waiting to be found…

For too long, Opaline, Martha and Henry have been the side characters in their own lives.

But when a vanishing bookshop casts its spell, these three unsuspecting strangers will discover that their own stories are every bit as extraordinary as the ones found in the pages of their beloved books. And by unlocking the secrets of the shelves, they find themselves transported to a world of wonder… where nothing is as it seems.

I gave this book a 3 star review.

I really liked the world building and the different backstories of the characters. At the end everything seemed to be related.

2 out of the 3 characters are living in this world, and are trying to find a purpose to their life after everything they endured. They end up in the same city by a chance. One of them arrived for a lost bookshop and manuscript, the other fled her hometown after being abused.

Both of them then go on a quest and there is this mysterious Lady Bowen, who actually is owning the neighbour house to the supposed bookshop, but no one beside those two characters can see her.

And the other character Opaline, the story is actually evolving around her and her past (as she lived in the early 1800).

So as you can see there is a lot of mystery, not murder but mystery.

I gave this 3 stars, as I had trouble getting drawn into the characters and their world. The only character I liked to follow was Opaline and her journey.

I hope you guys enjoyed this short review!

Love, Manon
