War, The Four Horseman #2 by Laura Thalassa

Updated: Aug 28, 2024

Good day follow book readers, I hope you're doing well! I would like to introduce you to my next read on my physical TBR (I am already halfway through, however I still have a Kindle TBR).

Review:

It sounds like "War" by Laura Thalassa is a captivating novel, being the second installment in the Four Horsemen series. The book delves into the character of War, one of the legendary Four Horsemen, and begins its narrative in the tumultuous Middle East, particularly Jerusalem. This setting provides a rich backdrop for exploring themes of conflict and chaos, fitting for the character embodying war itself.

The story intertwines War's mission to bring annihilation upon humanity, a stark contrast to the concept of redemption previously offered to humanity. Miriam, who is portrayed as War's wife, plays a central role in the unfolding narrative. The novel not only focuses on War's destructive purpose but also weaves in elements of romance, adding depth and complexity to the storyline.

The author's writing style is noted for its engaging narrative and the seamless integration of various thematic elements. Despite its length—approximately 500 pages—the book maintains intrigue throughout, exploring how the influence of a single Horseman can impact humanity profoundly.

Readers can also expect a blend of romance and intrigue, with hints of forthcoming events involving Famine, hinted at towards the end of the book. The desire to explore further into the series is evident, especially with the anticipation of discovering more about Famine's role.

Lastly, the quest for the first edition cover of "Death," similar to the ones owned for Pestilence, War, and Famine, adds a personal touch to the reader's experience. The preference for consistency in book covers reflects a dedication to collecting and cherishing the series in its entirety.

If anyone has information on or access to the first edition cover of "Death," particularly the one featuring a man on the cover, the reader would greatly appreciate hearing from you to complete their collection.

Plot:

They came to earth--Pestilence, War, Famine, Death--four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity.

They came to earth, and they came to end us all.

The day Jerusalem falls to the horsemen, Miriam Elmahdy knows her life is over. Houses are burning, the streets run red with blood, and a traitorous army is massacring every last resident.

There is no surviving this, especially not once Miriam catches the eye of War himself. But when the massive and terrifying horseman corners Miriam, he calls her his heaven-sent wife, and instead of killing her, he takes her back to his camp.

Now Miriam faces a terrifying future, helplessly watching her world burn town by town, and the one responsible for it is her seemingly indestructible "husband," who refuses to let her go.

But there's another side to him, one that's gentle and loving and set on winning her over, and she might not be strong enough to resist. However, if there's one thing Miriam has learned, it's that love and war cannot coexist.

She must make the ultimate choice: surrender to War and watch humankind fall, or sacrifice everything to stop him.
